Athlete of the Year Awards
The following Athlete of the Year Awards will be awarded each year as long as there is a qualifying athlete.
Awards will be presented in the following categories, with one female and one male recipient in each category:
- Senior Swimmer of the Year (18/Under Female and Male)
- Open Swimmer of the Year (Female and Male)
- Open Water Swimmer of the Year (Female and Male)
- Adaptive Swimmer of the Year (Female and Male)
Senior Swimmer of the Year Requirements (18/Under)
- Residency: Must be a Connecticut resident.
- Age Limit: Must be 18 years old or under as of the award year.
- Participation: Must have competed in at least four (4) Connecticut Swimming-sanctioned meets during the award period.
Open Swimmer of the Year Requirements
- Residency: Must be a Connecticut resident.
- Team Representation: Must represent a Connecticut team at meets.
- Participation: Must have competed in at least three (3) individual events at the SCY or LCM Senior Championships during the award period.
Open Water Swimmer of the Year Requirements
- Residency: Must be a Connecticut resident.
- Age Limit: None.
- Participation: No minimum meet participation requirement.
Selection Criteria:
As power points are not applicable to Open Water events, recipients will be determined based on the highest-level Open Water meet(s) in which the athlete participated during the award period.
Adaptive Swimmer of the Year Requirements
- Residency: Must be a Connecticut resident.
- Age Limit: None.
- Participation: No minimum meet participation requirement.
Selection Criteria:
As power points are not applicable for Adaptive athletes, recipients will be determined based on the highest-level meet(s) in which the athlete participated during the award period.
Tiebreaker Policy
In the event of a tie, the following tiebreaker criteria will be used sequentially:
- Top two swims (by power points), where applicable
- Top three swims, where applicable
- Additional swims or meet results as needed
